Bob the Builder - Can We Fix It?

  • Oct. 19th, 2008 at 6:52 PM

I freakin' hope so!

I kept getting the BSOD on my main computer where I play the Doublet Legacy and finally made the painful decision to un-install and re-install all my games.  After watching my generation two heiress die four times I figured it was time.  I had four generations living in the same house, which was a first for me, and pretty awesome.  I extracted the main sims, except I forgot one adult and three toddlers.  Oops.  I think I can write it into the story though.  The other thing I didn't think about was saving the pictures I had taken since the last chapter.  Again, I think I can write this into the story.

I didn't want to save my prior games on the re-install because I wasn't sure what was causing the problem.  I pulled the downloads folder, which means that I've lost some CC and a few meshes.  I've put back some CC, stuff that I think I can trust, and downloaded a bit more, updating my hacks and putting in ACR for the first time.  I also updated my Nvidia driver, and made sure all the patches were installed before I ran the game.  I had to actually go buy another copy of Seasons because my original one wouldn't reload.  (I also picked up the Kitchen & Bath and Ikea stuff packs - Yay!)  I'm not sure if it was because of scratches on the disc, or because that is where the corrupted file was.

Then came the rebuild.  Since I only extracted the main family, the side stories and characters are gone.  They weren't that involved in the story anyway though.  It took forever because some of the family were saved in different life stages than I remember them at, and I couldn't find them right away.  Also, some of the extracted files were corrupted and didn't work at all.  I rebuilt the legacy home, modeling it after one I built for them just before the re-install.  Finally, I used SimPE to adjust their personalities, relationships, and skill points to put them back to where they should be.  I just can't figure out how to get the toddler skills back for my toddler without having to re-teach them.

Here's a picture of him, if anyone's interested.  At least I hope there is a picture of him here:

The good news is that I think it worked.  I was able to play the family for almost four hours this afternoon, after the rebuild, and not a speck of BSOD anywhere.  I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that the problem was solved, but I'm pretty hopeful.

Phew!

Sounds hopeful that you have got things sorted then, yay.

I can't see the picture in the post unfortunately, but opening it as a link works. He's very sweet.

I can't help you with the toddler skills I'm afraid. I decided not to bother with them when I did my rebuild, and the toddlers in the game had to re-learn them.

It's been two days of playing and I thought I had a problem when college kept crashing, but was able to get through it this morning while playing for a bit. Rather than take chances though, I just had Chloe drop out.

I just can't figure out how to put the pictures in these posts. I'll figure it out eventually. I heard that photobucket was having problems over the weekend, so maybe it was them and not me.

I ended up re-teaching all the toddler skills. It didn't take as long as I had thought it would. And I did it without smart milk!

It does sound promising even with college crashing at times.

To put a picture in a post you have to click on the icon that looks like mountains on a yellow background. Click the Photobucket tab if you have uploaded it there. Find the picture you want and click on it. Then click 'paste image' and it will put it in your post.
